MONTREAL 3, ST. LOUIS 2 (SO)
ST. LOUIS Alex Kovalev scored the lone goal in the third round of a shootout as the Montreal Canadiens skated to a 3-2 victory over the St. Louis Blues.
Carey Price made 24 saves and denied David Perron and Keith Tkachuk in the bonus format as Montreal earned its second win in the last six contests.
Andrei Kostitsyn recorded a goal and an assist and Robert Lang scored with 4:12 remaining in the third period to forge a 2-2 tie.
The Canadiens were 0-for-10 on the power play and have scored twice in their last 36 chances.
Steve Regier netted his first career goal and later added a power-play tally for the Blues, who have dropped seven of their last eight.
The Blues got on the board first when Cam Janssen unleashed a slap shot from the slot and Regier redirected the puck past Price just 3:48 into the opening period.
Manny Legace finished with 24 saves and was first exposed with 1:55 left in the second. Kostitsyn took a pass from Price and charged down the ice before converting a backhander from the right side to even the game at 1-1.
Regier struck again 3 1/2 minutes into the third, but Legace was solved once again as Lang deflected Kostitsyns pass across the crease while sitting on the right doorstep with 4:12 left.
The Blues snapped a six-game losing streak with a 4-3 overtime victory against the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday behind two goals from Andy McDonald. However, McDonald left this contest in the first with an undisclosed injury and did not return.
Blues veteran left wing Paul Kariya missed his fifth game with an injured foot.
CAROLINA 3, TAMPA BAY 2 (SO)
RALEIGH, North Carolina Captain Rod BrindAmour scored in regulation and was successful in the second round of the shootout as the Carolina Hurricanes ruined the coaching debut of Rick Tocchet with a 3-2 triumph over the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Wade Brookbank had his first goal of the season for Carolina, which rallied from a two-goal deficit to snap a three-game losing streak.
Goaltender Cam Ward made 26 saves in regulation and denied Lightning captain Vincent Lecavalier before Jussi Jokinen missed his attempt in the bonus format to clinch the win.
Lecavalier and Martin St. Louis tallied for the Lightning, who dropped their fourth straight game.
SAN JOSE 6, CHICAGO 5
CHICAGO Devin Setoguchi scored a power-play goal with 4:15 left in the third period to help the San Jose Sharks hand the Chicago Blackhawks their first loss in regulation at home with a 6-5 victory.
Defenseman Dan Boyle scored two goals and Milan Michalek, Joe Thornton and Jeremy Roenick also tallied as San Jose recorded its 12th straight win over Chicago.
Joe Pavelski registered three assists and defenseman Marc-Edouard Vlasic set up two goals to support Brian Boucher, who turned aside 28 shots in his fifth straight start filling in for the injured Evgeni Nabokov.
Rookie Kris Versteeg netted two goals and defenseman Brian Campbell and Cam Barker added a goal and two assists apiece.
Patrick Kane tallied and set up another and captain Jonathan Toews had two assists for the Blackhawks, who dropped their third straight contest.
PHILADELPHIA 4, ATLANTA 3
PHILADELPHIA Joffrey Lupul snapped a tie with 6:17 remaining in the third period as the Philadelphia Flyers notched their 12th consecutive victory over the Atlanta Thrashers with a 4-3 triumph.
Simon Gagne recorded a goal and two assists and Mike Knuble alsotallied and collected his 200th career assist for Philadelphia, which improved to 3-0-1 in its last four games.
Defenseman Kimmo Timonen scored and Antero Niittymaki turned aside 29 shots to improve to 11-0-0 in his career against the Thrashers.
Erik Christensen, Bryan Little and Vyacheslav Kozlov scored and Johan Hedberg finished with 28 saves for Atlanta, which was denied in its bid for its franchise-record sixth straight win.
ANAHEIM 2, LOS ANGELES 0
ANAHEIM, California Jonas Hiller stopped all 29 shots he faced to record his first career NHL shutout as the Anaheim Ducks recorded a 2-0 triumph over the Los Angeles Kings.
Corey Perry extended his points streak to three games with a first-period goal and defenseman Bret Hedican also tallied as Anaheim defeated Los Angeles for the eighth time in the last 10 meetings – including the last five at the Honda Center.
Erik Ersberg finished with 24 saves for Los Angeles, which has dropped two in a row after a four-game winning streak.
