NY GIANTS 23, WASHINGTON 7

LANDOVER, Maryland Eli Manning passed for a season-high 305 yards and a touchdown while John Carney kicked three field goals to lead the New York Giants to a 23-7 victory over the Washington Redskins on Sunday.

Manning completed 21-of-34 passes, including a 40-yard touchdown to Amani Toomer, with one interception for the Giants (11-1).

New York won its seventh consecutive game despite being without wide receiver Plaxico Burress.

The talented but troubled Burress, sidelined by a hamstring injury, was not with the team after suffering an accidental gunshot wound to his leg at a New York City nightclub Friday night.

Brandon Jacobs 1-yard TD run gave the Giants a 20-7 lead with 8:38 remaining in the third quarter. Jacobs got the eight-play, 48-yard scoring drive started with a 23-yard gallop and finished with 71 yards on 21 carries.

The Giants scored for the third time on their third possession. This time, they drove 60 yards in six plays, capped by Carneys 38-yard field goal for a 13-0 lead with 12:01 remaining in the second quarter.

On the first play of the drive, Manning dumped a pass in the flat to running back Derrick Ward, who scampered 48 yards to Washingtons 32-yard line.

Manning then connected with Steve Smith for 11 yards and Toomer for 5 more, putting Carney within range.

After holding Washington on downs, the Giants drove 67 yards on 11 plays, capped by Carneys 31-yard field goal for a 10-0 lead with 2:11 remaining in the first quarter.

Manning connected with tight end Kevin Boss for 24 yards to the Redskins 44-yard line. Domenik Hixons 13-yard reception notched another first down.

Mannings 15-yard completion to Toomer on a slant pattern and a late hit by Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall moved the Giants to Washingtons 8-yard line. Redskins defensive tackle Anthony Montgomery sacked Manning for a 6-yard loss on third down, and New York settled for a field goal.

Manning spread the ball around to six receivers. Toomer led the pack with five receptions for 85 yards. Ward caught five balls for 75 yards while Hixon also had five receptions for 71 yards.

Redskins wide receiver Devin Thomas scored his first career touchdown on a 29-yard reverse that pulled Washington within 13-7 with 8:31 remaining in the second quarter.

Carneys 39-yard field goal with 6:26 left provided the final margin.

Jason Campbell completed 23-of-38 passes for 232 yards with one interception for Washington (7-5). Clinton Portis, who sustained a jammed neck but returned to the game, rushed for 22 yards on 11 carries.

CAROLINA 35, GREEN BAY 31

GREEN BAY, Wisconsin DeAngelo Williams scored a career-high four touchdowns, including a 1-yard run with 1:30 remaining as the Carolina Panthers posted a 35-31 victory over the Green Bay Packers after squandering an 11-point halftime.

Jake Delhomme set up Williams winning score with a 54-yard completion to Steve Smith, who took the ball away from cornerback Charles Woodson before being downed at the 1-yard line.

Carolina (9-3) remained tied with Tampa Bay (9-3) atop the NFC South.

The Packers (5-7) erased a 21-10 deficit by scoring on their first four possessions of the second half, but had to settle for a 19-yard field goal by Mason Crosby to take a 31-28 lead with 1:57 remaining after a 1st-and-goal at the 7.

TAMPA BAY 23, NEW ORLEANS 20

TAMPA, Florida Matt Bryant kicked a 37-yard field goal with 1:55 to play, lifting the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a 23-20 victory over the New Orleans Saints.

Jermaine Phillips and Phillip Buchanon each intercepted passes by New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees in the final 2 1/2 minutes to put a serious damper on the playoff hopes of the Saints (6-6).

Antonio Bryant caught a 39-yard scoring pass and Carnell Cadillac Williams had an 8-yard touchdown run to keep the Buccaneers (9-3) atop the NFC South.

Brees finished 25-of-47 for 296 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions for New Orleans.

INDIANAPOLIS 10, CLEVELAND 6

CLEVELAND Defensive end Robert Mathis returned a fumble 37 yards for his first career touchdown with just under 10 minutes remaining, lifting the sluggish Indianapolis Colts to a 10-6 victory over the Cleveland Browns.

Through three-plus quarters, Indianapolis was held to only a field goal, committing three turnovers, including a fumble by quarterback Peyton Manning on the Browns 1-yard line.

But fellow defensive end Dwight Freeney stripped Cleveland quarterback Derek Anderson, and Mathis scored the games only touchdown to give the Colts (8-4) their fifth straight victory.

The Browns (4-8) were blanked in the second half after Phil Dawson kicked a pair of field goals in the opening 30 minutes.

BALTIMORE 34, CINCINNATI 3

CINCINNATI Joe Flacco threw a pair of touchdown passes to lead the Baltimore Ravens to a 34-3 rout of the hapless Cincinnati Bengals.

Mark Clayton caught a 70-yard scoring pass from Flacco and threw a 32-yard touchdown pass to fellow wideout Derrick Mason in the third quarter to help the Ravens pull away for their sixth win in seven games.

Flacco, who finished 19-of-29 for 280 yards, has 11 touchdown passes and two interceptions in his last seven contests, keeping Baltimore (8-4) one-half game behind Pittsburgh for the AFC North lead.

Clayton had five receptions for 164 yards and Mason added six catches for 91 yards as the Ravens completed a season sweep of the woeful Bengals (1-10-1).

The Bengals were completely manhandled by Baltimores defense, punting on 11 of their first 12 possessions, going three-and-out eight times.

MIAMI 16, ST. LOUIS 12

ST. LOUIS Ronnie Brown scored on a short touchdown run as the Miami Dolphins rebounded from their first loss in over a month with a 16-12 victory over the woeful St. Louis Rams.

Brown finished with 48 yards on 15 carries and scored the games only touchdown on a 3-yard run in the second quarter.

Dan Carpenter kicked three field goals for the Dolphins (7-5), who had their four-game winning streak snapped with last weekends 48-28 loss to New England.

Steven Jackson rushed for 94 yards for the Rams (2-10), who have lost their last six games.

SAN FRANCISCO 10, BUFFALO 3

ORCHARD PARK, New York Shaun Hill found Isaac Bruce for a 12-yard touchdown in the first quarter and the San Francisco 49ers held on for a 10-3 victory over the Buffalo Bills.

Hill finished with 161 passing yards and Frank Gore rushed for 66 yards for the 49ers (4-8), who had lost seven of their previous eight contests.

Ryan Lindell hit the left upright on a pair of field-goal misses for the Bills (6-6), who have lost five of their last six games.

Lindell, who missed from 20 and 40 yards, had made 53 straight field goals of 40-or-less yards entering this contest.

DENVER 34, NY JETS 17

EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey Jay Cutler passed for 357 yards and two touchdowns in rainy conditions as the Denver Broncos cooled off the New York Jets with a 34-17 victory.

The loss snapped a five-game winning streak for the Jets (8-4), who held on to their one-game lead in the AFC East when New England lost to Pittsburgh, 33-10.

Rookie Peyton Hillis rushed for 105 yards and a touchdown for the Broncos (7-5), who opened a commanding three-game lead over San Diego (4-8) in the AFC West.

Denver put away the contest on Cutlers 36-yard TD strike to Brandon Stokley that made it 34-17 with 9:37 remaining.

PITTSBURGH 33, NEW ENGLAND 10

FOXBOROUGH, Massachusetts Pittsburgh scored 30 unanswered points, aided by three third-quarter turnovers, while Ben Roethlisberger threw two touchdown passes to lead the Steelers to a 33-10 victory over the New England Patriots.

Jeff Reed kicked four field goals, including two in the third quarter when the Patriots muffed a kickoff and quarterback Matt Cassel was strip-sacked twice by James Harrison.

Pittsburgh (9-3) maintained its one-game lead in the AFC North over Baltimore, which beat Cincinnati earlier in the day.

New England (7-5) committed five turnovers overall and lost its third home game in seven tries this season to fall back into a second-place tie with Miami in the AFC East.

ATLANTA 22, SAN DIEGO 16

SAN DIEGO Rookie Matt Ryan tossed a pair of touchdowns to lead the Atlanta Falcons to a 22-16 victory over the San Diego Chargers.

Michael Turner rushed for 120 yards and another former Charger, Justin Peele, had a TD reception for the Falcons (8-4), who overcame three turnovers to post their fourth win in five games.

Despite the loss, San Diego superstar LaDainian Tomlinson reached a pair of milestones. Tomlinsons 3-yard score in the first quarter was the 136th of his career, tying Marshall Faulk for fifth on the all-time list.

Tomlinson also hauled in his 500th career catch, becoming the fifth player in NFL history to have 500 receptions and 10,000 rushing yards.

KANSAS CITY 20, OAKLAND 13

OAKLAND, California Larry Johnson scored the go-ahead touchdown early in the fourth quarter and the Kansas City Chiefs held on for a 20-13 victory over the Oakland Raiders.

Johnson ran for 77 yards on 23 carries, scoring from 2 yards out with 13:49 left to make it 17-10. Connor Barths second field goal – a 27-yarder – stretched the lead to 20-10 with 8:59 left.

Tony Gonzalez had eight catches for 110 yards for the Chiefs (2-10), who won for just the second time in the last 21 games.

Justin Fargas had a 1-yard touchdown run and Sebastian Janikowski kicked a pair of field goals for Oakland (3-9).

MINNESOTA 34, CHICAGO 14

MINNEAPOLIS Gus Frerotte threw a 99-yard touchdown pass to Bernard Berrian and also rushed for a score as the Minnesota Vikings claimed sole possession of first place in the NFC North with a 34-14 triumph over the Chicago Bears.

Berrian reeled in the 11th touchdown reception of 99 yards in NFL history for Minnesota (7-5), which has won four of five since dropping a 48-41 decision to Chicago on October 19.

Adrian Peterson rushed 28 times for 131 yards and a score and Chester Taylor added a 21-yard touchdown run for the Vikings.

Kyle Orton tossed a 65-yard touchdown pass to Devin Hester in the first quarter and a five-yard score to rookie Matt Forte in the third for Chicago (6-6), which has dropped six of seven at the Metrodome – including a 20-13 loss last season.
