NEW JERSEY 5, OTTAWA 1
NEWARK, New Jersey Patrik Elias netted two goals and set up two others and Zach Parise had four assists as the New Jersey Devils defeated the Ottawa Senators, 5-1.
Brian Gionta, Travis Zajac and defenseman John Oduya also scored and Scott Clemmensen made 24 saves for the Devils, who are 11-2-1 over their last 14 games.
Blue-liner Paul Martin added three assists for New Jersey, which opened a four-game homestand. The Devils also will host the Philadelphia Flyers, Boston Bruins and Pittsburgh Penguins over the next eight days.
Jarkko Ruutu recorded a shorthanded goal and Alex Auld turned aside 21 shots for the Senators, who have lost five of their last six contests.
CHICAGO 3, CALGARY 2 (OT)
CALGARY, Alberta Defenseman Duncan Keith scored 23 seconds into overtime to lift the Chicago Blackhawks to a 3-2 victory over the Calgary Flames.
Dave Bolland tallied, Patrick Kane netted a power-play goal and defenseman Brian Campbell had two assists in regulation for the Blackhawks, who extended their winning streak to six games.
Chicago is enjoying its longest run since winning six in a row from December 26, 2001-January 6, 2002. The Blackhawks last loss in regulation came on November 29, a 5-2 setback to the LosAngeles Kings.
They are 7-0-1 this month after closing November with a three-game skid.
Rene Bourque had a goal and an assist and David Moss also scored in regulation for the Flames, who saw their two-game winning streak come to an end. Captain Jarome Iginla notched his 800th career point with an assist.
ANAHEIM 3, EDMONTON 2 (SO)
EDMONTON, Alberta Jonas Hiller made 51 saves before denying all three shooters in the shootout as the Anaheim Ducks pulled out a 3-2 victory over the Edmonton Oilers.
Corey Perry scored the lone goal of the bonus format and also scored on a power play in regulation for the Ducks, who squandered a two-goal lead in the opener of a five-game road trip.
Rob Niedermayer had a shorthanded goal for Anaheim, which won for the fourth time in six games.
Kyle Brodziak and Erik Cole each netted a goal and Dwayne Roloson stopped 34 shots for the Oilers, who suffered their third straight loss.
BUFFALO 5, LOS ANGELES 0
BUFFALO, New York Ryan Miller made 40 saves to record his third shutout of the season and Derek Roy had a goal and two assists as the Buffalo Sabres cruised to a 5-0 triumph over the Los Angeles Kings.
Drew Stafford netted a goal and set up another and Adam Mair, Clarke MacArthur and Matt Ellis also scored for the Sabres, who have won five of their last seven games.
Miller turned aside 13 shots in the first period, 12 more in the next and 15 in the third to complete his 10th career blanking.
Jason LaBarbera turned aside 10 shots and Quick stopped seven for the Kings, who were shutout for the fifth time this season and handed their third straight loss.
MINNESOTA 4, NY ISLANDERS 1
ST. PAUL, Minnesota Colton Gillies snapped a tie early in the third period with his first career goal as the Minnesota Wild scored three times in the session en route to a 4-1 victory over the slumping New York Islanders.
Mikko Koivu and Pierre-Marc Bouchard also scored in the third for the Wild, who ended a six-game losing streak.
Stephane Veilleux netted the tying goal with 57 seconds left in the middle session and Niklas Backstrom made 14 saves for Minnesota, which had gone 4-9-1 over its previous 14 contests after a great start to the season.
Richard Park collected a power-play goal and Joey MacDonald turned aside 35 shots for the Islanders, who have yet to win in December. New York has posted an 0-7-1 record this month.
