Steelers Giants Betting – Steelers Depth The Key
As we head into week two of the NFL preseason, many questions still need to be answered. The Week 2 games are often looked upon for depth, as rosters are usually cut down before the important third week. Two perennial powerhouses, the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New York Giants are set to battle and both teams missed out on the playoffs last year, and the preseason begins their quest to get back there.
NFL Betting: Pittsburgh Steelers @ New York Giants
Why To Bet On The Steelers
The Steelers quarterback competition is still undecided. Byron Leftwich got the start against the Lions, but Dennis Dixon is still in the running to start those first six games that Ben Rothlesberger will be suspended for. It is unknown if Big Ben will take the field. He lobbied to play last week, but Mike Tomlin has said it is a real possibility that Ben may be held out for the entire preseason. Rashard Mendenhall ran hard, though he did fumble. Regardless, the Steelers defense dominated the Lions in another strong performance. They also have numerous wide receivers fighting for the spot opened up by Santonio Holmes departure.
Why To Bet on the Giants
Tom Coughlin is always a master motivator. Thus, his teams never take the preseason lightly. The Giants and the Jets opened up their new stadium to a festive atmosphere. It is now back to work for the team, as there is a short turnaround for the game against Pittsburgh. It will be interesting to see former Indianapolis backup Jim Sorgi, now following the other Manning brother. Sorgi always performed well in the preseason and this should be no different. Running back Danny Ware is looking to earn his place on the roster.
How the Game Will Play Out
The Giants are the home team, but I like the Steelers to win the game. The defense was tenacious and even the reserves have adapted the mentality of the team in its performance. They also have two NFL-ready quarterbacks fighting for a six week starting job. The Giants are no slouches, but when push comes to shove, I think the Steelers will take this game, albeit a close one.
