I started to become friends with a guy I met in one of my classes and we have had a good time betting on football and basketball games. He off handily mentioned that he was going to bet on some fights and said if I wanted I could come with. I thought he was talking like ufc/mma but it ended up that he was talking about like actual dog fights. I didn’t believe him at first and said I don’t want to go. I talked to him today and he ended up making like $250 on friday. He said its nothing like what the media makes it seem like and that the dogs actually like it. Like its in their nature. I like to gamble and it sounds kind of fun but I’m not sure if I could get any trouble. There is another fight next Saturday so I am debating going to that one.

My question is would I get in any trouble for going and if you were me would you go? If you have been to one I would love to hear what you thought of it. Thanks!

- I don’t know all the details but from what my buddy said its like they don’t even have to motivate the dogs. Its like second nature or something. I haven’t been to one yet so I can’t really answer much beyond that.

• First of all the dogs don’t like to do this sort of thing, its cruel and vicious, and for some dogs, its all they know, because they were raised this way. Think of it this way: if you were taken as a small child and forced to fight for other peoples amusement either to the death, or at the very least, until one of you is seriously injured. After you get in that fight, you get a short chance to heal, and forced to fight again, almost right away, and thats only if you win. If you lose, they kill you, because your no good to them anymore.

  Other than that, yes, dog fighting is a felony in all 50 states, however it depends on what state you live in if its a felony to be a spectator or not. For example, I live in Illinois, and it is a felony here, but in Indiana its only a misdemeanor. This chart will help you with the different laws depending on where you live.

• Yes, you would get in trouble if you got caught. even if you say you were just watching, the police will probably still charge you for being associated with dog fights. You may even be taken to court for it if the ASPCA chooses to get involved. So please dont go. Its not worth the risk and its bad supporting that kind of stuff.
